Our 1.5″ dual 4 ohm voice coil features a 8-layer copper wire wound on Kapton former. Utilizing a Kapton former in speaker voice coils offers several advantages. Kapton’s non-conductive nature prevents the formation of eddy currents, which can otherwise introduce mechanical resistance and distortion in conductive materials like aluminum. This absence of eddy currents allows for smoother diaphragm movement and improved sound quality. Additionally, Kapton’s stability helps maintain consistent inductance characteristics, ensuring reliable speaker performance across various frequencies. However, it’s important to note that while Kapton provides excellent thermal resilience, its lower thermal conductivity compared to materials like aluminum may affect heat dissipation in high-power applications. Therefore, the choice of former material should balance factors such as thermal management, weight, flexibility, and electrical properties to meet specific design requirements. The use of copper wire enhances electrical conductivity, providing efficient power transfer and effective performance in audio applications. Copper offers superior strength and is much easier to solder to than aluminum.
