Since the dark gray foam color matches the original, the finished result looks factory-correct. Additionally, the surround fits clean with no trimming needed. As a result, the install feels more straightforward and the glue line looks cleaner.

However, surface prep still matters, so take your time cleaning the landings.

Installation Notes (Quick Prep + Glue Steps)

1) Clean the frame (basket):
Remove old foam and hardened glue from the basket landing until it’s smooth. For stubborn residue, wipe with isopropyl alcohol and let it dry completely.

2) Clean the cone edge:
Remove all rotted foam and old adhesive from the cone’s outer edge. Work slowly to avoid tearing the cone, especially if it’s paper. Clean landings make the biggest difference in bond strength.

3) Test fit first:
Dry-fit the new surround on the cone and basket before you apply glue. Make sure it lays flat and lines up with the landing areas without pulling or wrinkling.

Glue & Cure

4) Glue step 1 — surround to cone:
Apply a thin, even bead of L3890 to the cone landing (or the surround’s inner lip). Press the surround into place and smooth it evenly all the way around. Let it tack up so it holds position before moving to the next step.

5) Glue step 2 — surround to frame:
Apply L3890 to the basket landing, then press the surround down evenly around the full circle. Smooth the edge so it sits flat with consistent contact.

6) Cure time:
Let the adhesive cure for at least 24 hours at room temperature before heavy use, high volume, or hard bass.
