The inner rolls are softer, while the outer rolls are stiffer. Made from Nomex fabric impregnated with stiffening resin, the design allows for variations in stiffness across the spider. This results in a non-linear compliance characteristic, meaning the restoring force increases as the voice coil moves further from its rest position.
