3″ Dual 4 Ohm CCA Black Voice Coil 2.93″ WW
3″ dual 4 ohm voice coil features a 4-layer copper-clad aluminum (CCA) wire wound on a black anodized aluminum former. The former helps dissipate heat away from the coil during operation, while the anodized finish enhances thermal transfer and adds resistance to corrosion and wear. This combination supports consistent performance and long-term reliability, even in high-power applications.
Using copper-clad aluminum wire offers the best of both worlds—combining the lightweight properties of aluminum with the excellent conductivity of copper. This hybrid construction helps reduce the overall moving mass of the subwoofer, allowing for quicker, more responsive voice coil movement. As a result, the system delivers improved transient response, better efficiency, and clear, dynamic sound reproduction. The outer copper layer enhances electrical conductivity, ensuring more effective power transfer and reduced resistance compared to standard aluminum coils.
While not as conductive as pure copper, CCA wire significantly reduces weight without sacrificing much in terms of performance. This makes it ideal for high-output subwoofer systems where lightweight efficiency is just as important as power handling. The reduced mass places less strain on the motor structure, allowing the subwoofer to perform with greater speed and precision. Overall, the use of copper-clad aluminum in this voice coil delivers a smart balance of strength, conductivity, and performance, making it an excellent choice for demanding audio applications.
Adhesives for Subwoofer Repair and Reliability
To ensure long-lasting reliability, this voice coil is constructed using a high-temperature adhesive capable of withstanding extreme temperatures up to 500°F. As a result, it performs well under demanding conditions and has earned customer trust. By contrast, competitors’ coils often fail due to inferior adhesives.
When repairing a subwoofer, it’s essential to use the correct adhesive for each component to ensure proper bonding:
-
Voice Coil to Spider and Cone: Black rubber CA glue provides a strong, flexible bond for these critical connections.
-
Surround Lip to Frame: Use L3890 black rubber glue, which maintains flexibility to handle the inherent vibrations in subwoofer operation.
-
Dust Caps and Lead Wires: Likewise, L3890 glue is ideal for securing dust caps and dressing lead wires, ensuring they remain securely in place during use.
Using adhesives formulated specifically for speaker repair is crucial. They are designed to withstand the unique stresses and vibrations experienced by subwoofer components. Therefore, always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
Soldering Aluminum Voice Coil Wires
Soldering aluminum voice coil wires can be challenging due to aluminum’s natural oxide layer, which hinders standard soldering methods. Thus, to achieve a reliable bond, it’s essential to use both a flux and solder specifically designed for aluminum.
For best results, we recommend our Ultra Gold Flux Soldering Kit, which is formulated to effectively disrupt the oxide layer and facilitate a strong connection between aluminum components. Otherwise, attempting to solder without these specialized materials may result in weak joints or even complete connection failure. Therefore, investing in the appropriate soldering kit is essential for ensuring the durability and performance of aluminum voice coil repairs.
