The JL Audio 12W7 / 12W7AE progressive-roll spider is an OEM-equivalent replacement designed to match the original suspension characteristics used in the factory 12W7 platform. It delivers the same progressive compliance, control, and durability expected from the original design while restoring proper centering and excursion behavior in high-performance subwoofers.

Its progressive roll geometry increases stiffness as excursion rises. Therefore, the spider remains compliant at low excursion for smooth response, yet tightens control during heavy bass output. This behavior mirrors the original JL Audio spider and helps protect the voice coil from mechanical stress during high-power operation.

Progressive Compliance and OEM-Equivalent Fitment

The uniform corrugation pattern allows smooth cone movement at lower output levels. As cone travel increases, the spider applies greater restoring force to keep the voice coil centered in the magnetic gap. Consequently, it reduces the risk of coil rub, bottoming out, and long-term suspension fatigue.

This spider uses the same collar-based mounting method as the original JL Audio W7 design. The inner diameter is intentionally oversized and must be installed using a voice coil collar. The collar bonds directly to the voice coil, and the spider then bonds to the collar. Because of this design, the collar cannot be omitted, and this spider will not grip the voice coil directly.

Durable Nomex Construction

This spider uses high-strength Nomex fabric treated with a heat-resistant resin system. As a result, it tolerates the elevated temperatures produced by high-power amplifiers while resisting sag, tearing, and fatigue. Even under daily abuse or competition-level use, the suspension maintains stable performance and long-term reliability.

• BEP870 Epoxy
