7.4″ x 3″ 4-Layer Spider Pack
The 7.4 x 3 spider pack combines four layers of Nomex bonded into a single suspension assembly. Specifically, it is designed for high-power subwoofer applications that require increased suspension stiffness and support for the moving assembly.
4-Layer Spider Construction
Spider requirements depend on moving mass, excursion, suspension geometry, material, and the intended operating conditions. However, high-power subwoofer designs with heavier voice coils and greater excursion can require additional suspension support.
Our 7.4 x 3 spider pack uses four bonded Nomex layers to create a stiffer, more supportive suspension assembly than a comparable single-layer spider. As a result, the four-layer construction provides greater support for the moving assembly and helps maintain voice coil alignment throughout its intended operating range.
Nomex vs. Poly-Cotton (7.4″ x 3″ Spider Pack)
In comparison, poly-cotton and Nomex spiders use different fiber structures, while the spider material, resin treatment, and construction all influence the final suspension characteristics.
The 4-layer Nomex spider uses aramid fiber known for its thermal stability and mechanical strength. Therefore, Nomex is well suited for demanding high-power subwoofer applications where the suspension operates near a high-temperature voice coil.
Beyond that, the resin treatment helps establish the stiffness and formed shape of the Nomex spider. As a result, the Nomex fiber, resin treatment, corrugation geometry, and four-layer construction determine the mechanical behavior of the finished spider assembly.
Linear Roll Spider
This 7.4 x 3 spider pack uses a linear-roll corrugation design. However, like all loudspeaker suspension components, the spider’s stiffness changes as excursion increases. Therefore, the linear-roll geometry is designed to provide controlled suspension behavior throughout its intended operating range.
In comparison, progressive-roll spiders use varying corrugation geometry to alter the suspension characteristic as excursion increases. Ultimately, actual suspension behavior depends on the spider geometry, material, resin treatment, number of layers, and the completed driver assembly.
