JL Audio 12W7 / 12W7AE Subwoofer Spider
The JL Audio 12W7 / 12W7AE Subwoofer Spider is made specifically to fit the 12W7 platform. This spider uses a smaller voice coil inner diameter (VCID), so it installs directly onto the voice coil during assembly. In contrast, the OEM-style version uses a larger inner opening and requires a separate collar ring.
What Else Do You Need?
Along with the spider, you will typically need the correct voice coil, cone collar, dust cap and surround to complete the repair. Since replacement cones for the 12W7 are not available from any supplier, you will need to reuse your existing cone and dust cap.
Recommended Adhesives
Using the right adhesives is the difference between a repair that lasts and one that fails prematurely.
- EC4000 Black Rubber-Toughened CA Glue— for bonding the spider to the voice coil, collar and frame
- FLXEP860 Semi-Flexible Black Epoxy — an alternative to CA glue for the same bonds
- BEP870 Black Epoxy –Â an alternative to CA glue for the same bonds
- L3890 Thick Black Rubber Adhesive — for attaching the surround and dust cap
Installation Tips
Dry-fit parts first and confirm alignment before final bonding. Use the correct adhesives for spider-to-voice-coil and spider-to-collar bonding, then allow full cure time before applying power. If you’d rather not do it yourself, contact us and we can discuss rebuild service options.
