7.4″ x 2.38″ progressive roll spider pack features a varying roll or corrugation pattern. Compliance increases, becoming stiffer, as displacement increases. The inner rolls are softer, while the outer rolls are stiffer. Made from Nomex fabric impregnated with stiffening resin, the design allows for variations in stiffness across the spider. This results in non-linear compliance, meaning the restoring force increases as the voice coil moves from its rest position.
Our 7.4″ x 2.38″ linear roll multi-layered spider pack offers an extended dynamic range. It handles greater excursions and higher power levels due to increasing stiffness. This makes them suitable for high-power applications. They are durable and suited for handling extreme forces and high-stress environments without damage. Additionally, they provide enhanced control of the voice coil at high excursion levels, reducing the risk of mechanical failure.
The combined stiffness from stacked spiders (spider pack) allows the driver to handle higher power levels without distortion. This is useful in high-performance audio systems requiring loud volumes and powerful outputs. Stacking spiders improves control over the voice coil’s movement, especially during large excursions. This helps maintain linearity and reduces distortion, resulting in clearer sound reproduction.
Multiple spiders improve the damping of the speaker system, reducing unwanted resonances and vibrations for cleaner and more accurate audio output. Additionally, by stacking spiders with different stiffness characteristics, designers can fine-tune the compliance of the speaker suspension system. This allows for precise control over the speaker’s performance, optimizing it for specific audio applications.
Make sure you’re using the proper glue when attaching the spider to both the coil and the frame. The best glue, in our opinion, is CA glue, which we offer in several viscosities. Our most popular CA glue is the EC4000, available either as a kit or as a standalone bottle. If you plan on using a 2.38‑inch aluminum coil, be sure to use the proper solder flux specifically designed for soldering aluminum. However, if you’re using copper wire voice coils, then you won’t need solder flux
